A battery passport is an electronic record for one individual battery, reached by scanning the QR code on the battery. From 18 February 2027, every LMT battery, every industrial battery above 2 kWh and every electric vehicle battery placed on the EU market or put into service must have one, under Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. This publication explains what the record holds, who can see which parts of it, and how to prepare.

A battery has a story.
A passport connects it.
A battery passport is a digital record connecting a battery’s identity with information about the product and its lifecycle. Think of the QR code as an entry point, and the record behind it as the useful part.
What is a battery passport? ↗One battery. A connected history.
Traceability follows the product across organisations and stages. The passport connects its identity to the records that make each stage understandable.
